In addition to my Sephora VIB Sale Haul, I also got the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette and Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk from Nordstrom. What a productive weekend for my wallet... I'm wearing both items in this post, but I only took two close-up pictures. So I'll be posting some swatches
Today, I would like to update you what I've added to my closet from the VB for Target collection (read my wishlist here). The first few pictures were taken by my mom when she had time and the rest of them I could only manage to take selfie-style. I hope I can still get my ideas across.
When the collection launched online on Sunday, April 9th, I stayed up and was able to order everything on my wishlist. I also went to my local Target with my mom in the morning, prepared and expecting it to be a total madness like Lilly Pulitzer collection in 2014. To our surprise, it looked just like a regular day at Target. I saw people check out the collection, but no one tried anything on. I also checked online mid-day and everything was still available. I guess either people are not as interested in this collection as previous ones, or Target increased quantities this time?
Below, I'll be showing you, side by side, how they look on the website (all taken from Target online) and on me. For the tops, I will also be showing you how I pair them with pieces from my closet. Lastly, I will be sharing with you the items I liked, but returned and why. So let's get started!
Women's Dark Floral Scallop Trim Top (Sold out, $26):
Material: 100% polyester; Size: M
Unfortunately, mine had some extra printing (arrow), which wasn't too bad, but still a shame. It was an online-exclusive and sold out by the time I received it, so I couldn't order a replacement. I called Target Customer Service and had a surprisingly good experience with them. The customer service specialist was understanding and really wanted to help, even though she could only give me back $3 (10% and rounded up) in the system. But she kept thanking me for shopping at Target and making me feel very appreciated.
I would like to point out the bottom on the back of the neck is on the inside (circled) of the shirt. I checked the other sizes I ordered and they were the same. I assume this is a manufacturing issue, but it's not uncomfortable to wear.
Girls' Navy Stripe Collared Top (sold out, $15)
Material: 62% polyester, 38% cotton; Size: XL
Yes, this is a little girl's shirt. I saw it in store, thought it was adorable, but not childish. The XL looked like it would fit me and I gave it a shot. The fabric is soft and stretchy, which I guess made it work for me. This was certainly my cheapest ($15!) and most unexpected purchase from the collection.
A stripe top is such a classic and this one is also playful: The peter pan collar with little bees and white scalloped trim as stripes. For makeup, I'm wearing the Charlotte Tilbury palette and you can see how natural and glowy it is. For jewelry, I'm wearing some pearl earrings (8-8.5mm) from Costco (Item #600961, $97.99) and a 14KT gold hoop from TJ Maxx in my cartilage (Alexa & Tori, $39.99 for the pair).
Below, I've paired this top with jeans and a black pencil skirt again. For spring, I think it'd be fun to play with some color. Here, I've paired it with a green lace pencil skirt (J Crew) and a coral pleated midi skirt (Cupcakes & Cashmere, Nordstrom Rack) from my closet.
I previously had my eye on the cami and scarf (both sold out) in the bee print, but after seeing those gigantic bees in Texas, I don't think they are cute anymore :(.
Women's Black English Floral Satin Dress ($35)
Material: 95% polyester, 5% spandex; Size: M
Material: 100% polyester; Size: M
This dress is adorable! I end up going with black rather than the pink one from my wishlist. The bunny on the peter pan collar makes it the perfect Easter dress and a little more whimsical (think Alice in Wonderland). The color and length are still work-appropriate. I think this is a season-less piece. It can be dressed with flats or heels (like the model) now and tights (add some color with burgundy or blue) when it gets colder. I would wear it with sleeves rolled up a little and adding a belt for more shape (leopard calf-hair belt, J Crew Factory).
Women's Black Embellished Bug Dress ($60)
Material: 64% Polyester, 30% Rayon, 6% Spandex; Size: S
This is the second most expensive items in the collection, after the Embellished Bug Bomber Jacket (sold out, $70). The fabric feels soft and good quality. The beading and rhinestones seem secure and the embroidery looks nicely-made. The length is a little shorter than I would have liked, but my main issue is I'm not sure how much use I would get out of it. I can't think of an occasion to wear it to. Also, the details are only on the front and the back is plain black. One of my fashion pet peeves is I don't like items that are printed in the front, but not the back. It just seems unfinished.
Women's Black Satin Photo Floral Top with Ruffle Sleeve (Sold out, $28)
Material: 94% Polyester, 6% Spandex: Size: M
Women's Black Satin Photo Floral Skirt in S (Sold out, $30)
Material: 94% Polyester, 6% Spandex: Size: S
I love this outfit, the bell sleeves and elegant floral print. The fabric feels good quality. The problem is, this is the only outfit I can get out of these two pieces for $58. This skirt will show your stomach, which could be hidden by this top. Personally, I don't wear and don't like crop tops. I gravitate toward A-line and (recently) pencil skirts and don't wear mini skirts. I brought these pieces home, tried to pair each piece with everything I could think of and just can't seem to make it work. If I ever come across them on sale, I would certainly get them just for this outfit.
Final Thoughts:
After micro-managing my mom and spending hours taking these pictures with my self-stick (my arm is still sore...), I've now developed a lot of respect for bloggers. And even more respect for their boyfriends or husbands who took their pictures. I've always had terrible experience asking a guy to take my picture and had to explain (not yell I promise...) to them what was wrong with the picture. When we ate at the River Walk during my work trip to Texas, I asked a male coworker (I was the only girl on the trip) to take a picture of me with the 32-oz Dos-a-Rita. He also included a guy's butt (who was walking by) in the picture and I had to crop out 50% of the picture! Then I asked another coworker sitting across from me to capture the entire glass (which was huge!). Instead of sitting back to take a picture, he tilted the camera and gave me a double chin... I could only imagine what those guys had to go through! Lesson learned: Just because it looks easy doesn't mean it's actually easy.
Thank you for stopping by! Check back
Have a nice day!
