How to Start Selling on Poshmark

Hello friends, happy Tuesday! :)

I just finished YOU on Netflix last week. OMG, so good and I can't wait for Season 2! Isn't it so weird seeing our Dan Humphrey being this stalker/killer character, while still so charming?! I'm also loving the KonMari series! As you might know, I’ve been selling some of my stuff and putting the money toward new things (see my last post!).

I’ve been on eBay for years and started selling there again in September last year. I've sold a lot, but it was getting a little slow around December. That's when I finally decided to try Poshmark.

I've been on the app for a month and half now and have made 9 sales, totally ~$270! It was a little bit of a learning curve for me and very different from eBay. I plan to do a more in-depth comparison between the two in the near future.

So today, we’ll talk about how to start selling on Poshmark — the basics, listing, and how to share. We’ll cover making a sale (offers, price drop etc), shipping, and getting paid next week to prevent this post from getting too long. I hope you'll find this helpful, if you also want to make some extra cash! ;)

PS: Check out my closet here!

To start, you'll need to download the Poshmark app and create a profile. While you can browse and interact on the desktop site, you can only create listings in the app. Poshmark is very social media oriented. More followers, more exposure, more potential sales. If you connect through your contacts, Facebook, Twitter etc., you can start getting followers already.

The user interface for Poshmark is quite similar to Facebook.
Feed: Much like the Facebook feed, this is where you see listings from people/brands you follow and listings your followers share. Click on the little person on the top right corner to find people.

Shop: Search for listings.

Sell: Create listings, which we'll cover that next.

News: Just like Facebook notifications, you'll see who follows you, who liked, shared, commented, made an offer, purchased your listings, etc here.

@yourclosetname: This is how you access your closet, profile, sales, Posh stats, payment etc.

Now we've got our basics covered, time to KonMari your closet and gather all the items for sale!

1. Take Good Pictures!
  • Make sure you have good lighting, a clean background and take then in SQUARE (like Instagram pics). Here are some examples from my closet:
  • Other details I like to include are: brand/size tag, tags attached (if it's new with tag), materials, etc.
  • Lastly, I'll include any pictures I can find online. I think it really helps to convey what the clothing looks like on.

2. Details, Details, Details!
  • Since it's final sale for buyers (unless the item is not authentic, condition not as described etc.), I like to be as detailed as possible, including materials, actual measurements etc. It's also important to point out any majors flaws and include pictures if needed. Here's an example using my Lilly dress:
  • You will also need to find out the Original Price of your item and decide on your Listing Price. You can find the original price online or do a quick search inside the app for the same item. I'll usually price my item the same or a little lower than the lowest in the app, depending on the condition. Poshmark will automatically calculate your earnings.
  • Here's what a complete listing looks like:
Yay, your item is now live! To increase your chance of making a sale, you have to be active on the app -- sharing other people's listings, as well as your own.

Posh Parties:
One of the easiest ways to share listings is through Posh parties and each party has a different theme. You'll be invited to 4 parties every day -- 9AM, 12PM, 4PM, and 7PM (in PST). You can also access parties through "Shop," as shown on the right.
To share (yours or others), click on the double arrow sign. You can share to a party or your followers. You can also share to other social media.

Self Share:
One of the tips I read from successful Poshers is to share your closet two or more times a day. I started following this tip and I do think it helps to make more sales. Again, more exposure, more potential for sales!

So that's all I have for today, folks! Thank you so much for stopping by! Next week, we'll go over making a sale (offers, price drop etc), shipping, and getting paid. I hope you find this helpful and happy Poshing! :)
