Hello friends, Happy Friday!
I'm inspired by all the rainbows I've seen for Pride Month, so today I'm sharing with you an easy, but attention-grabbing rainbow nail design (ideas from this video I saw years ago). I promise you it looks a lot more complicated than it is :).
- Base coat and top coat, I'm using:
- NAILS INC. NAILKALE Superfood Base Coat ($15)
- Gel Effect Top Coat (discontinued), they now have 45 Second Top Coat with Kensington Caviar ($15)
- A white nail polish, I'm using China Glaze "White on White" ($7.50)
- An assortment of nail polishes in rainbow colors, I'm using:
- Reddish pink: Revlon "Optimistic" ($6.29)
- Orange: China Glaze "Sun Worshipper" ($4.40)
- Yellow: Sally Hansen "Mellow Yellow" ($2.49)
- Green: China Glaze "Highlight of My Summer" ($7.50)
- Blue: essie "In The Cabana" ($9)
- Purple: wet n wild "On a Trip ($1.99)
- Dotting tool ($1.93) -- If you don't have one, a toothpick or bobby pins work as well.
This is how the colors look under the sun:
- Cut your nails to desire length.
- Apply base coat.
- Apply white nail polish, I used two coats to achieve total opacity.
- Drip a little nail polish onto some paper or paper towels. Dip the dotting tool into the polish and apply onto your nails. Don't worry about being perfect.
- Continue layering the colors, moving up your nails. I find one coat is enough.
- Once you'are done, apply top coat.
- Having a white base is optional, but it does make the colors pop more.
- Since this is a dotted rainbow look, you don't have to worry about having perfect straight lines. This design makes dotting with a non-dominant hand much easier.
- You don't have to wait for the previous color to dry completely, as you are dotting next to it.
- Don't worry about the uneven surface of the dots. Applying the top coat will smooth everything out.
- Feel free to customize your rainbow colors. I'm using both neon and muted colors in mine, so there's more contrast. But you can do it with just pastel colors for a softer look or go bold with all neon!
- This nail design is not only perfect for Pride Month, you can also wear it to a festival or an 80's Party. It goes with everything!
This is how it looks under the sun and I'm obsessed!
Next week, I will be (finally) posting photos I took in China. Thank you for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend! :)
