These two week's of travel has been quite tiring for me, but I did get a chance to explore the city a little bit this week (more on that next week!). Today, I'm sharing the food items I always buy during a business trip to eat a little healthier.
As soon as I get to my rental car, I look for grocery stores. We generally fly into a bigger city, which has a lot more grocery stores, than the smaller city where our company is located. So I try to get some food items before heading to the hotel. The grocery stores I tend to look for are Costco, Trader Joe's and Sprouts, as I already shop there regularly back home. For this trip, I went to the Sprouts about 10 miles away from Austin and this is what I got:
Lemons: They are so inexpensive, but it feels like such a luxury to have a glass of detoxifying lemon water in the morning, as I normally would at home. Fruits: It's hard to get enough fruits and veggies when I'm travelling. I always buy some berries (preferably organic), seasonal fruits (I got watermelons), smoothies or juice (look for no sugar added).
Coconut Water: I also get aloe vera juice sometimes, but it's hard to find the ones with no sugar added. I will have them after a quick workout in my hotel room or just sip on them throughout the day. I like coconut water with pulp.
Probiotic Food: I make sure to eat more probiotic food for healthy digestion when I'm travelling. I like to go for Kombucha and Non-fat Greek Yogurt. Kombucha is fermented from green tea or black tea and it's certainly an acquired taste. It's hard to find kombucha with no sugar added, so I always stick with the GT's brand that adds pure juice or puree for flavor.
For breakfast, I usually have a 2% milk (from the hotel) and my non-fat Greek yogurt topped with granola and fruits. Although most hotels carry yogurt, they are loaded with sugar (almost 20g!). That's why I always buy my own yogurt. Sometimes I'll bring my own granola from home too, depending on the space.
For this trip, we mostly went out for lunch and dinner. Otherwise, I would have gotten more salads and veggies too.
Next week, I will be posting the places I've ate at and obviously the best part of any trip - the shopping!
Thank you for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!
