My Fashion Pet Peeves

Hello friends, Happy Friday!

As a fashion lover, I'm so excited to share with you my fashion pet peeves today. I understand we have different tastes and styles, this is meant to be lighthearted, not to offend anyone. I'm focusing on women's fashion here, so clothing, shoes and handbags. I had so much fun putting this together that I'm considering writing one on my beauty pet peeves! I would love to hear if you agree or disagree with me on any of them and let me know what yours are!

So here are my 12 Fashion Pet Peeves (all that I can think of right now):
  1. Crop tops that show off the entire midriff (even worse with mini skirt or shorts). This trend should have just stayed in the 90's and early 2000's. Sorry Britney Spears! Karrueche Tran surely has some nice abs, but I don't need to see your entire midriff AND bralette! Did you cut that top?!

Here's how to keep it tasteful showing a little skin, with high-waisted wide-leg pants or a midi skirt:

  2. Bralettes, bustiers or corsets as tops. Riri always comes up with some daring and fashion-forward looks. This is just not one of them. Don't get me wrong, I think it looks cute peeking out under a sweater or an overall, but not worn alone as tops! Put on some clothes...

  4. Same trend head to toe (or too many trends in an outfit). I love leopard print and mix-and-matching different prints, but going leopard head to toe is just too overwelming. For Gwen Stefani, I at least appreciate that her outfit is more tailored and she keeps the hair and makeup simple. Nicki Minaj, on the other hand, looks like she's going to a Halloween party, rather than the Grammy's. And the hair?! Somebody help her...

Here are a few ways to do it right. A leopard coat instantly glams up a simple outfit. This jumpsuit also works because of the flattering cut, which looks well-fitted. Lastly, Riri totally rocks this dress with two different colors!

  5. When the print/pattern is only on the front of the clothing, not the back. It just seems unfinished to me.
  6. Extremely distressed jeans. Even the Kardashians can't make this trend appeal to me, sorry Kim and Khole! The next two pairs look like they are barely hanging. What's the point?!

Selena Gomez, however, looks effortlessly chic in a less ripped version.

  7. Buttons instead of a zipper on jeans. Who's got the time to unbutton then rebutton every time? Terrible design!
  8. Fake luxury handbags. I don't see this in the States, but it's everywhere in China, with replicas looking almost like the real thing! Luxury handbags are certainly an investment, but they will last you for years to come. Today's world is filled with fast fashion and it seems like we are losing track of how much good quality can cost. It's okay if you can't afford a luxury handbag, buy the best quality you can afford. Don't go around carry a fake one; it cheapens your look. Besides, it'll probably last you a month, so you fall into the vicious circle of fast fashion.
  9. Crocs and Birkenstock. Can we please just burn them? They keep coming out with different prints and colors, which doesn't make them any more attractive. Sorry!

  10. Wearing flip flops outside the house (Wear whatever inside!), unless you are: getting your nails done, going to the pool/beach, and public shower (shared dorm bathroom).
  11. Wearing sandals with socks, unless you are stretching out a new pair of shoes inside the house

  12. Chanel espadrilles. I just don't get the hype around these. I love espadrilles and I love Chanel. Tory Burch makes so many cute espadrilles, so it seems silly to me to spend ~$700 for the Chanel logo. For the same price, the ballerina flats are a much better choice in my opinion.

  13. Taking off heels in public and going barefoot. We've all seen those people at clubs/parties who wear 4, 5-inch heels for two minutes, then go barefoot for the rest of the night. If you can't walk in them, either don't buy them or don't wear them out! Shoes are meant to be walked in, not posed in. Wear a lower heel or flats. Besides, going barefoot in public is just gross.
So there you have it! ;) What are your fashion pet peeves?

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend! :)
