My Skincare Routine (Summer 2017)

Hello friends, today we are talking about one of my favorite topics -- skincare!

As much as I love makeup (especially from Charlotte Tilbury), I'm a firm believer that good skin is the foundation for any makeup look.

Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty! – Coco Chanel

Growing up, I watch my mom always take her time putting on her skincare products at night, layer by layer. She looks great for her age btw and doesn't wear any makeup! While I never had that much patience with my skincare, over the years I've found a routine that works for me and discovered many brands with clean/natural ingredients. So today, I'm sharing with you my morning and evening skincare routine, what I save vs. splurge on, and lastly, where I buy my skincare products.

  1. French Girl Organics Cleansing Wash ($18 for 2 oz$32 for 4 oz): Face wash is a SAVE item for me. I'm not picky, as long as it doesn't dry out my skin.
  2. MISSHA Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence 5 oz ($49): I started using Essence last year and it has been a game changer. This one is said to be a dupe for the SK-II one and I'm finishing up my third bottle. If you've never tried an essence before, I highly recommend giving it a go!
  3. Andalou Naturals Coconut Water Firming Toner 6 oz ($12.99): Another SAVE item for me, because I go through them so quickly! This one smells refreshing for the summer. I also keep some in the fridge to cool down on a hot day or after a workout.
  4. Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum ($34): Serums are totally worth the SPLURGE, although this one is very budget-friendly. Serum penetrates deeper into your skin and I like to use one with brightening properties. This Vitamin C serum is almost transparent in color, lightweight, smells botanical, and absorbs quickly. This is my second bottle and I'm a big fan! I also like this Juice Beauty Green Apple Age Defy Serum ($55), which also brightens, but is a little sticky.
  5. Goddess Garden Organics Bright Eyes Firming Eye Cream ($14.65): Eye creams are also SPLURGE for me, as eyes are one of the first areas to show aging. I started using this eye cream recently, which is from my Vegan Cuts Beauty Box subscription last year. Prior to this, I was using this Juice Beauty Green Apple Brightening Eye Cream ($39), which is moisturizing, but not heavy.
  6. Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses Beautiful Day Cream 1.7 oz ($24.99): Face cream is a SAVE item for me. This one is lightweight and smells fresh, which is great for summer.
What's not shown here, which I believe everyone should use daily, is sunscreen. Nowadays, many face creams or foundations come with some level of SPF protection. I use this Juice Beauty Stem Cellular CC Cream ($39), which has SPF 30, and reapply this Brush On Block Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Mineral Powder Sunscreen ($22) during the day. I tend to go for physical sunscreen with Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide.

The first step in my evening skincare routine is to take off my makeup. I'm on my second bottle of this Trader Joe's Facial Cleansing Oil ($6.99), which was first mentioned in my April & May Favorites. I tend to SAVE in this category, as long as it removes my makeup without irritating my eyes.

I then follow up with the same products (1 - 5) in my morning routine, except the face cream. Depending on how my skin feels that day, most of the time I'll alternate between using a face oil with a few bronzing drops (for a little glow) and a retinol product. If my skin feels a little oily, I'll just use a night cream. If it feels extra dry, I'll layer the oil on top of the night cream. I tend to SAVE on night creams, but SPLURGE on face oils.
  1. Andalou Naturals DMAE Lift & Firm Cream ($24.99)
  2. French Girl Organics Facial Oil Elixir ($44)
  3. Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster 0.5 oz ($32)
  4. Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil ($105 for 1 oz; $55 for 0.5 oz): This product is totally worth the hype. It brightens, but also adds moisture compared to most retinol products, which can be drying. It's green out of the bottle, but becomes colorless once blended.
  • TJ Maxx: Many clean/natural brands such as, Andalou Naturals, Yes to, Shea Moisture, Jason's.
  • Anthropologie: They do 20% off full-price items and sales on beauty products quite often. Many stores also have testers now. In addition to Juice Beauty, Mad Hippie, RMS Beauty, and Ilia, Anthropologie now carries its own brand Puristry, which I can't wait to try!
  • Sephora: I save my pricier purchases for their sales in April (15% off) and November (20% off).
  • Vegan Cuts Beauty Box (Monthly): I had a 6-month subscription last year and really enjoyed it! It's a great way to discover new products or if you are new to clean/natural beauty and don't know where to start. I stopped my subscription to use up some of products I have, but I would defintiely re-subscribe in the future. They also have a Quarterly Makeup Box. You can check out and purchase past beauty and makeup boxes here

So that wraps up my skincare routine! Let me know if you have any questions about any of the products above and I would love to know what your skincare staples are!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day! :)
